Last time, Icy arrived in Cerulean City. After finding his
way to the local gym, he swiftly defeated Misty. And now…
Icy waited for the class to end. The students left the main
gym for their homes, comparing pokémon as they left. Icy walked over to Misty.
“Who was it that I reminded you of?” Icy asked curiously.
Misty thought hard. It had been many years since she, Brock,
and Ash had gone adventuring together. Then, the name hit her. “Ash! From
Pallet Town. We used to go on adventures together when he was learning to be a
pokémon master. I don’t know what happened to him.” She notices all the
Caterpie crawling around Icy’s legs and turns green. “Ahhhhh! Bugs!!! Get
them away!!!” She continues screaming for a second but then calms herself.
“Hehe. I’m sorry. I’m not too thrilled about bugs. Hey, you look like
someone who really loves pokémon. I know someone that you should meet. His name
is Bill and he owns a lighthouse just a few miles north along the coast. He
might be able to show you some neat rare pokémon.” Icy nodded and left the
gym. Misty settled down completely as the last Caterpie disappeared with Icy.
“I can’t stand bugs,” she muttered to herself. Just then the last
Caterpie peeked back in only to find a metal loop flying its way. It
ducked out just in time. “Grrr…”
Icy traveled along the coast until he could see a tall
building coming into focus. It was the lighthouse. After about 10 minutes, he
finally made it to the front door. He rang the doorbell. A voice on a speaker
greeted him.
“Hello?” it asked.
“My name is Icy. Is this Bill’s lighthouse? Misty sent me
to see him.”
“Yes it is. Please come in.” The doors swung open to
reveal a wonderfully decorated foyer.
“Wow,” Icy said in amazement. Bill walked up to him.
“Hello. I am Bill, a pokémon researcher.” Bill extended
his hand to Icy. They shook. “I don’t believe I’ve heard your name before.
Were you at the Cerulean party last week?”
“The name’s Icy. No, I wasn’t there. I was in Pallet
Town during the party I think. But I heard about Team Rocket trying to crash it.
I am a psychic trainer from Saffron City.”
Bill notices the herd of Caterpie joyfully wiggling around
Icy’s leg. “Very cute. You know, most trainers don’t let their pokémon
roam freely outside their pokéballs.” He then notices a Pikachu playing with
the group of Caterpie. “A Pikachu! Perfect!” He turns to Icy with a smile on
his face. “Icy, would you like to be the first human to be able to read a pokémon’s
thoughts? It’s perfectly safe.”
Icy thought it over for a sec then decided it was worth a
shot. “Sure, I’ll try your device.”
“Great. Would you have Pikachu go into that pod over there
please, and you go into this one.” Icy got into his pod and Bill started the
device. For a second, both Icy and Pikachu felt a little funny, then Icy could
hear something. The voice didn’t belong to Bill, it was Pikachu’s. Bill’s
machine actually worked, Icy could hear Pikachu’s thoughts. As he listened,
Pikachu was thinking about how much it missed the forest and the Pikachu herd,
but it was happy to have such a kind trainer. Icy was pleased to know that his
pokémon were content with him, but the serene atmosphere was interrupted by the
sound of an explosion.
“Let go of me!”
“Bwa ha ha! We got him this time!”
“Let’s get out of here!”
“Right!”
Just then, the machine, damaged by the explosion, went
haywire. A weird beam Icy had never seen before fired out from the explosions at
him. Pikachu was thrown from its pod into the pile of Icy’s pokéballs. The
beam had a strange effect on Icy. As he pulled himself together, he thought,
“What a headache. Where’s Bill? What happened?” Then, he looked down at
his hands. They were yellow. An effect of the beam, possibly. Then he looked up.
The controls for the machine were almost twice his height. “Weird,” he
thought. A shiny, polished surface on the device glimmered in the sunlight. He
slowly walked over to it and to a look at his reflection. When he saw himself,
his body became completely limp and he fainted.
Xavier, Insanellama, and X were jolted awake by the sound of
the explosion. Insanellama mounted Rapidash, and told the others to move as fast
as they could. Xavier got on his Nidoran, and X got aboard his Onix. Insanellama
was the first on the scene. Xavier and X got there only seconds later. “Ok,
Rapidash will be our flashlight guys.” said Insanellama. They walked through a
door way where a door would have been if it hadn’t been knocked off of its
hinges. “WHAT THE???” said Insanellama. “Those look like Icy’s
Caterpie, and I think one of those two is his Pikachu.” X and Xavier and
Insanellama stood motionless, in astonishment.
